SIP AROUND THE SOUTH SOUND AT 7 CRAFT DISTILLERIES

Tacoma News Tribune

We’ve come a long way from vodka, the ubiquitous spirit just about every local distillery made when the area’s first distilleries began opening in 2012. Today’s South Sound distilleries produce gin, barrel-aged bourbon, rye whiskey, moonshine, lavender liqueur, brandy and even ouzo. In all, seven distilleries are open to the public in Pierce and Thurston counties. They make terrific weekend field trips, especially for out-of-town visitors.

UPDATE: Tasting Room Open Soon!

University Place, Wash.

Its been a busy 10 months here at Chambers Bay Distillery (CBD). Last May we began producing whiskey – whiskey to be released as bourbon beginning this summer - and developing our spirit brands.  While our bourbon continues to age down at our boathouse, we plan to launch two other spirits this spring: Ghost Dog Whiskey and Rán vodka (pronounced rawn).

With the help of our interior design expert Michelle, our electrician/upholsterer Jeff, and our builder Rick White,  we have been working hard to transform the front of our distillery from a glorified computer storage space into a tasting room. With the walls painted, new floor installed, and Edison lights hung, we are making good progress and plan to open the tasting room in mid April in conjunction with the release of Ghost Dog Whiskey. In addition to our first whiskey release, we will have both Chambers Bay Distillery and Ghost Dog branded merchandise for sale.

We'll keep you posted on Facebook, twitter, and this website. Please stay tuned...
